Nutrition quality score
The concept of calorie control is based on the CICO theory (calories in – calories out). This theory says that if we eat the same calories that we expend, we will maintain the weight. Based on that, if we eat less than we spend, we will lose weight and if we eat more than we spend, we will gain weight.
What this vision does not take into account is the nutritional quality of the food. Many nutritionists have complained about it, we have listened to them and we have responded at iUcalorie.
Eating 1000kcal of fast food is not the same as eating fruit. Certainly the total volume of kcal will be 1000. But the nutritional quality of the two types of food is very different.
We have invested a lot of time and energy to develop an algorithm capable of analyzing the nutritional values of any food and classifying it in a category based on its nutritional quality.
We have created 5 categories to classify foods (A,B,C,D,E) ranging from the most nutritious food to the least nutritious. You can find out all the details in the information we provide about what we take into account to make the classification.
We are constantly working and we monitor the meals that are categorized to check if they meet our expectations. If necessary, we make small adjustments to the algorithm when we see fit.
